A native of Caracas, Venezuela, Alejandro Betancourt Lopez came to the United States as a young man to study economics at Suffolk University in Boston, Massachusetts.
After earning his college degree with a specialized focus in international trade and a minor in business administration, Mr. Lopez found employment as an executive trader and director of trade with the North American company ICC-OEOC. he provided analytical support, executed EPCs, and generally managed business interests with the company’s Latin American clients.
Over the next decade, Alejandro Betancourt Lopez expanded his professional purview through a series of senior management posts with organizations such as BGB Energy and O’Hara Financial. In the mid-2010s, he served as both director and largest shareholder of BDK Banque de Dakar in Senegal and Pacific Exploration and Production in Canada.
Alejandro Betancourt Lopez assumed his current position as president of Hawkers Sunglasses in 2016. He admired Hawkers’ business model of offering reasonably priced sunglasses that mirror the trendy design and exceptional quality of high-end brands such as Prada and Gucci.
In addition to taking control of Hawker as a senior administrator, Mr. Lopez brought it to scale by orchestrating a massive round of angel investment. Forming a group of investors under the name Saldum Ventures, he managed to inject $56 million into the company at a critical time.
Alejandro Betancourt rapidly built Hawker into one of the leading fashion eyewear brands in the world, competing quite successfully in the luxury sunglass marketplace with its extremely reasonable product price points.
While engaged with Hawkers, Alejandro Betancourt Lopez founded the Spanish car service company Auro Travel and the global asset management company O’Hara Administration.
